“I usually dress a lot more tomboyish, but today I felt like throwing on a skirt cos it’s too hot for pants. I have two skirts and this is one of the two that I own.”

You have quite a lot of tattoos, can you tell me about them?

“Many of them are thirteen inspired tattoo, cos that’s my number I guess. On Friday the 13th, a lot of tattoo shops have a special for $13, so I have at least 10 thirteen inspired tattoos.”

“I just like comfortable clothes, anything that’s oversized, baggy, I just gravitate towards that. I usually wear sweatpants, leggings and any type of stretchy pants, drop crotch, harem pants, that’s all I wear.”

“My favourite Tyler The Creator song is called Radicals, the message in the song is really inspiring and it’s basically telling people you can do whatever you want to do, don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. I have it upside down, so I can read one and right side up, so everyone else can read it too.”

“I’m a film director, I make fashion films and commercial films.

My style is very laid back, but I definitely think about what I wear. I like to wear really masculine things, but mix it with something that’s more feminine. I like to have clean things on, like sneakers or something black but also wear something that’s a bit weird, kind of more of a statement piece. So I always try to do that and I always wear the same jewellery everyday.

What attracted you to this jacket?
“I think I like surrealist things, I love Magritte, he’s an amazing artist and there’s something about just the simple look of it, with that face, I like that, it’s kind of a surprise and it’s reversible, so on the inside, it has a different face.”

What are the other colours?

What’s something about fashion that you find challenging?
“I work out of my studio, I work in mixed media, I paint and use it in my films, so if I go to the studio, I want to wear something I can move around in, that can handle getting a little bit dirty. Sometimes I want to go out for drinks after that, I don’t know, I need to wear clothes I feel cozy and comfortable in, but sometimes I like to dress up more at night, like how do you do both, but it works out, I just end up wear sneakers to a nice restaurant.”

How long have you had your blue hair for?
Since October, it used to be pink, it used to be really long too, I just cut off like 2 feet.

When did you have the haircut?

On Valentine’s Day actually.

Why? Why on Valentine’s Day?
I had a dream that I was holding my hair in a little wooden box, so I just woke up and I called the salon and made an appointment.

Wow and how did you feel after you had the haircut?
I felt great. I’ve had long hair since I was… I guess the last time I cut my hair off I was 15, so it just feels really good. I ride my bike a lot too, so it’s nice to not have it.

Do you feel like you face any challenges in terms of fashion, clothes or your style?
Yeah cos a lot of the things I like to wear, I can’t. I can’t ride my bike in a lot of my clothes, it’s a bit of a drag. I would’ve rode my bike today, but I wanted to wear my red skirt, so sometimes I have to choose what’s more important.

I think you made the right decision today.

A friend of mine made this for me, I used to work at this place called Sky Town, she was making everybody name necklaces, but I didn’t want people to know my name, so I just went with Elvis, cos I like Elvis Presley a lot.

Laura – Paris

Every once in a while, I hit a road block and I want to try something new, but instead of doing a 180, I want to go a tangent and explore it. I’ve had this idea for a little while now and since Paris fashion week, I decided to just go for it, give it a try.

For me, fashion and people are just about my favourite things to photograph, but sometimes it’s hard to go beyond the surface, so I’m trying something new. I want to delve deeper, I want to tell stories, your stories. So without further ado, this is Laura and some of her stories.

What was your first memory of fashion?

“When I was 11, I drew this dress that I really wanted to wear myself, my mother said why don’t you try to make it more like the ones in this fashion magazine, so instead of looking at princesses stuff, I started looking at fashion magazines.”

“I got the bracelet from my boyfriend’s grandmother, his grandfather handed it down to me because he really likes me and wants me to feel like a part of their family. It fits very well with the gold crystal ring I got from my own grandmother, they go great as a pair, so it’s like me and my boyfriend’s families are great together.”
