little lady personal style daily outfit
I’m wearing: Zara dress, Bassike trench coat, Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses and Calvin Klein watch.

Walking around Surry Hills the other week, I spotted this big bunch of azalea spilling over the fence in an alleyway and blooming so vibrantly. I knew I had to take some photos here, so naturally I went back all dressed up and with heels on!

I’ve been resorting to wearing loads of black this autumn after my wardrobe clean out, which is quite uncharacteristic of me, which also can get a bit boring. Last winter I longed for a colourful coat but failed to find the perfect one. With blue and navy tones being classic staples in my wardrobe, I was over the moon when I found this Bassike trench coat! It is a size too big and the last one they had, but also because of that, when all buttoned up and tied at the waist, the coat becomes like a dress coat with a full gathered waist. Super ladylike!

Going along with the ladylike theme, I picked out some cat eye Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses, my trusty neutral grey Opening Ceremony wedges and Benah cuff bracelets. Simple and chic.

The weather here in Sydney has been fantastic lately! Not too cold, nice and sunny, gorgeous yellow/orange/red leaves everywhere, just what autumn should be. That weather + Natalie = dream boat photos. I first met Natalie last year at New Zealand fashion week, she is always so lively and positive, not to mention, stunning and her winning smile, my gosh, so infectious! taylor tomasi hill mbfwa sydney australian fashion week 2012

This fashion week has been a bit of a dream come true, I got to photograph many of the street style stars I’ve gotten to know and love through guys like Tommy and Phil and one of them is Taylor. She is never boring, I love how Taylor always has fun with fashion and it helps that she has killer legs to boot. When you work in fashion, it’s easy to live in this bubble and take clothes and shoes way too seriously, so I love seeing industry veterans take a more light hearted approach to fashion.

Oh, can we talk about Taylor’s sunglasses? Clearly reflective eyewear is staging a major comeback, cutie Margaret had some nice silver ones too. I remember reflective sunnies as something douche guys wore in the late 90s, or even worse, remember those reflective ones with holograms??? “Dudeeee, your sunnies have skulls in them, fully sick bro…” Yeah, no thanks. Ok, back on track, I wouldn’t mind Taylor’s orange ones and the wayfarer shape is nice and preppy. Plus there’s one really really big advantage to reflective sunglasses… no one can see if you roll your eyes at them! Oh the joy of Xiaohan-logic.

zanita mbfwa sydney australian fashion week 2012 street style

zanita mbfwa sydney australian fashion week 2012 street style
Zanita wears: Zara t-shirt, Just Jeans Jeans, Phillip Lim vest, Zara shoes and Alexander Wang bag.

Zanita is a / kind of the girl, you know the this/that/everything girl, well Zanita is model/photographer/blogger/babe! I first spotted and photographed her at fashion week in 2010 (here and here), and it’s been utterly amazing to see her style evolve and see her trajectory shoot straight up.

When I first got to know her, I thought she was so sweet and cute and even though we’ve known each other a while now, it still shocks me a little the stuff she says after a drink or two! Let’s not get into details here, cos that’s a whole other blog post! But you know what, I love her all the more for how candid she is, I find it really endearing and just so damn cool.

Check out Zanita and her blog!

Instead of the usual daily outfit post, this month I bring you, glasses! 1 top, 1 coat, 1 me and 4 pairs of glasses. I am short sighted, a fact widely known amongst friends, but perhaps not amongst the cyberspace, thanks largely to the invention of contact lenses. But I do wear glasses most days, I’ve worn them since my tween years aged 12 and I’ve churned through quite a few pairs through the years. Contact lenses may have the upper hand when it comes to practical outdoorsy reasons, but for me glasses reign supreme for comfort. When I’m shooting I can press my glasses right up to my eye, I might smudge my glasses, but contact lenses can move unexpectedly, cause pain and me to cry in front of a whole crew. Not a good look! When I’m on the computer replying emails, editing photos and browsing Shopbop for hours on end, glasses are also the more comfortable option, because they don’t get stuck and I mean STUCK to your eyeballs. Anyone who’s ever worn contact lenses, knows that when they move or dry out or just get somehow uncomfortable all of a sudden, you start looking and acting like a retard. I’d tilt my head up, blink furiously for a few minutes, try to move my eyeballs from side to side, all in an attempt to remedy the situation, oh did I mention while this is happening, tears are streaming down my face? Yup, total retard!

Sorry for making you all squirm in your seats with my very visual descriptions, tis the life of a contact lens wearer :p

Well, what can I say, glasses are safer and retard behaviour proof! In fact, they mostly have the opposite effect, they make you look smarter! A friend of mine isn’t short or long sighted, but always wears a pair of no prescription glasses to interviews, it’s working out pretty well for her. And c’mon, geek chic is where it’s all at!
